And yet, nobody mentioned anything about Simon Aldrich's list. A lot of
this stuff, as I said, is being played in the fall. 6 pieces on the list
are repeats that I've played quite a few times, including the Rossini and
the Nielsen, and the others are new. The studies I do on a daily basis for
about an hour a day on a rotating basis, depending on what seems to be
lacking on a given day or period of time. Lately I've been doing a lot of
articulation work and Bach, Opperman and Mimart have been fitting the bill
for that continuous struggle in my playing.

You'd hate to know how much my teacher has on his plate. I remember a time
about a year ago when he was working on 2 whole recital programs, 6 concerti
and another chamber program that included Bartok Contrasts and Stravinsky
L'histoire Suite. On a side note, 3 of the concerti were brand new world
premieres!! Busy busy busy!!!

In any case, I don't think it's the AMOUNT of literature that counts, it's
the QUALITY of the playing that counts! (be that orchestral, chamber,
concerto or just doing studies to better your playing) So Anne, if you're
working on Rose 26, GREAT! You don't have to be working on tremendously
difficult literature to enjoy what you're doing and to play it WELL!!

Enjoy your practicing and I look forward to reading back posts when I get
back from Europe.

Signing off the list for now,
Michael
