I have no idea is this will go to the list. I apologize for my "List"
ignorance.
On my stand currently is (in prep for DMA in the Fall, at Shenandoah
University):
TECHNICAL STUDIES
Baermann Scales
Kroepsch Method (broken into four books and taped back into one! ;-) )
Stubbins "The Esssentials of Technical Dexterity for the Clarinet"
ORCHESTRAL WORKS
Daphnes and Chloe (excerpts are part of warm-up routine)
Dvorak Symphonies 5 through 8
Stravinky's "FireBird"
CHAMBER MUSIC (Huge! Woodwind Quintet Fan)
Mendelssohn's "A Mid-Summer Night's Dream" (WW Quintet) [used as a tonguing
exercise and warm-up]
Barber's "Summer Music" (WW Quintet)
METHODS
Rose 32 Etudes
I obviously do not hit every piece every day. But they are what is
currently in front of me. I warm-up with the long-tone exercises in the
Stubbins (excellent!), exercises based on common key from the Baermann and
Kroepsch studies and then I move to the Orchestral and Chamber music works.
I hit the Daphnes and Chloe and Mendelssohn excerpts and move into the
Stravinsky, Barber and Rose. I am not preparing any specific solo work, so
I just pick something as I feel the spirit. today I think I will spend time
on the Brahms Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano. I practice with the
SmartMusic or recordings whenever I can in order to practice intonation in
ensemble playing.
I appreciate everyone's input so far. It has helped keep my mind on my
return to college to start my DMA (Doctorate of Musical Arts). I have been
a middle school teacher for the last four years, and have substituted with
the Roanoke Symphony...when they would call me. :-(
Later!
Robert Moody
