I once saw a television program on the Discovery Channel that featured an
interview with the person in charge of maintaining all the priceless items in
Buckingham Palace (I think that is where it was). She said to never use a
silver polish that contains ammonia, as it is damaging to the metal. It
should be fairly easy to determine whether the polish has ammonia by simply
smelling it.
