I always tell myself that the audience is not going to kill me... ;-)

Seriously, my first step against stage fright (or rather the bad influence
of it; everone should be a little bit nervous. This triggers adrenalin) is
to enter the stage and make it my _own_: The audience is not allowed to
enter it; it is my safety cage. After that, I try to forget all about the
audience out there and concentrate on the music as if I were playing for
myself. Even during pieces I ignore applause as much as possible and turn
immediately to the next piece. And last but not least: I never look at the
audience during performances but look over their heads (as every actor
knows, as a side-effect this creates the impression for a person in the
audience that you are looking at her, independant on were she sits).

BTW the same works for presentations and other acting.
