Cindy,

your question depends on the absolute price of the overhaul. Can you
tell how high it is? I asked my repairsman for a while about the price
of an overhaul, it would be about 960,- DM. Don't know which material
he takes for the pads, but I would guess it is leather.

Dirk

I have been comparing prices, etc. for getting a Bb clarinet overhauled.
I have a question about materials used. There have been various methods
told to me. One said he used cork for the upper joint and gortex for the
lower joint. Another said he uses silicon for all the pads. Could any
one with experience with these different materials tell me any
advantages or disadvantages of one to the other? I would appreciate
knowing how long one can expect each kind to last, key noises or
whatever you think of. The person who uses cork and gortex costs double
the price of the guy who uses silicon. Is cork worth double the price? I
would love to hear you opinions.
Thanks so much!
