Jessica,

I am one of the people who cannot bend clarion pitch--at best i can drop
a whole step from the fingering.

I have played the opening gliss of RinB effectively.

One of the things that helped me most was the suggestion by another
clarinet player about hand use. Play until C chromatically. Then pull
the hands away as a unit with the top finger almost as a pivot. Start
the 'pull' both hands the same time, but pull the top (left hand) slower.
Trying to move individual fingers sounded jerky.

Focus on the sound effect, and do whatever works for you to get the
sound.
