I bought a box from IMS back in March and have been slowly working my way
through them in rotation with my purple box and modern blue box Vandorens.
Very similar in tone and other qualities to the older Vandorens, even though
the cut is quite different from any Vandoren. I'll play one in my lessons
and my teacher will ask if that's one of the old Van's, it's funny, cuz he
asks that everytime i play the Evo's.

As to the bridge to the altissimo, i'll have to pay attention when i play
them again. I didn't particularly notice an obvious easiness in the
register change. But i tend to not pay so much attention how i'm doing
things, as i am to just making sure it works. Will have to get back to you
on that.

After learning about them on sneezy I just just tried some Rico Grand
Concert Evolution reeds and was very impressed. Out of a box of 10 reeds 9
seemed very playable. They are more consistent in strength than the Van
Doren regulars I usual play on. They also seem to have an interesting
characteristic, which may be peculiar to me, which is that it is much easier
for me to go over the second break smoothly with them, say slurring from c3
to d, e, or above. It takes less of a change of anything other than fingers
to cross the break so that it is virtually effortless. I think I'll play on
these for a while!
