There is an excellent book that answers questions like this. It
costs $10-$15 (US) and has easy-to-read diagrams and fits in your shirt
pocket. The title is "303 Clarinet Fingerings & 276 Trills" by Alan
Sim. Gary van Cott (who posts on this list) sells it, among others.

In the chalumeau register, this book says that long Eb fingerings
are useful for Bb/Eb and Ab/Eb tremolos, but the Eb plays sharp.

In the clarion register, this book says that long Bb fingerings are
usually in tune, and they are frequently preferred for sustained notes.

Just to avoid any confusion, I assume that "long fingering" means to
use R1 or R2, not to use the little fingers or side trill keys. There
are a bunch of fingerings & trills with little fingers or side trill
keys that have defects but (I suppose) are used when nothing else works.
