Jessi,

I can answer only from my own experiences. I have noticed if the reed
is a bit too low I get a "breathy" sound. If it is a bit too high, I
squeak on notes. Although I find it easier to blow if my reed is just a
"hair" below the tip and to the left. It seems to cure my problems. I
am using Vandoren #2's if you need to know which.
