Subj: [kl] Studying with your dad

When my oldest son was only five years old he wanted to learn to play
clarinet. Of course I couldn't agree to that, so we launched an intensive
course on recorder. After a year I could not follow him anymore, so we
invested in a professional teacher. Of course he progressed even faster. But
this teacher died from cancer.

We then looked for another pro. After only four months she told him he
should look for a better teacher, and advised him her own teacher from the
conservatory.

This year he graduated from university with the degree of Master of Science,
both for physics and mathematics. But he could be one of at least Europe's
mayor players of recoreder, euphonium or piano. Of course here you listen to
the proud father, but this father is so inmodest as to think he too knows
something about music.

Of course I only partially understood his graduation work.

When my second son graduated from philosophy, I read his final work,
corrected it linguistically, and gave comments and posed new questions to
what he had written. He sais it did help him a lot.

It is not my personal experience, but "studying with dad" can be very
interesting, I think. I graduated from Mechanical Engineering, psychology
and Computer Science. Unfortunately I never could
"study with dad". I hope my sons did enjoy whatever little help I could
give them.
