We might add that Vl I and II, Va, Vc I, II and III, and Cb I and II (but
not III) are all instructed to play harmonics. This creates an extra
octave gap between the bottom A and all of the harmonic A's. The first
time I heard it live (at a New York Phil. concert at the Philly Academy of
Music in September, 1966 or '67) I nearly had an orgasm.
