It isn't just high pitched... It is the entire string section in octaves
from the lowest basses to the violins way up. Everybody is on the note "A"
and each string section is divided into 3 to get more range mixed in... I
heard somebody give a lecture on the similarity of this to the beginning of
Beethoven's 9th.

The downward 4ths that the woodwinds play set up thematic material for the
rest of the symphony.
