I am embarassed enough to admit that today I heard this album for the first
time. And I am big Benny fan! I guess the lp was to rare (and expensive) for
me to bother with for years and then I never bothered to buy the cd when it
came out. It seemed unnecessary since most of the tunes I already had
recordings of Benny playing somewhere.

I hope anyone out there with even a passing interest in Jazz or Benny Goodman
gets to hear this. Superb. The big band tracks are amazing. Benny learned
from working with all the great orchestral conductors how to get the most out
of musicians. The intonation and balance and tightness of ensemble are all
the responsibility of the leader. Benny was a master of this and it really
shows in the band tracks. The combo tracks are also wonderful. His flirtation
with Bop is highly evident in several of the tracks, with the unison virtuoso
playing, etc.

The sound is hardly 21st century, but it is superb mono. I think it has the
best sound of any of Benny Goodman's truly great performances.
