When I think of "doing" more with a reed, I think of being able to make
adjustments in less fear...the thicker a reed is, to me, more room for
error, sometthing I DESPERATELY need, since I am very very very very new
to the ART of minute reed adjustment. (After a point, technique just
seems to go out the window and it becomes a matter of...well, that sounds
like maybe I should take a little off here, or there...how about here?).

If I tried to "do more" with a standard blank, I'd be done with the reed
before I even started!

As far as sound goes - I've found that I can get the sound I want from one
type of blank regardless...usually switching to something softer, harder
or a significantly higher or lower heart is more than enough. *shrug*
