Then you should LOVE the old Selmer expanding metal ligature with NO screws
at all! :-)
Actually, I have recently acquired one and have been using it. The jury is
still out for sound and response, but it is clearly unsuitable for Bb to A
switching. I've seen pictures of Benny Goodman using one, so how bad could
it be (even granting that he may have been paid to)?
I tried a Vandoren Optimum a while back. Only one plate seemed suitable to
me -- the one with the two rails parallel to the reed. While that was
fine, I can get the same thing with an inverted Bonade for a lot less money.
