Walter Grabner of this list has a book on reed making which describes the
process of making reeds completely by hand, with knives, files and
sandpaper. Good information, but the process is not for the fain of heart!

There's the Velasquez book (can't remember the title) which goes into
great detail about making reeds on a ReeDuAl. Very practical and useful
book, at least for me. Info about cane, how to effectively split it top
get good blanks, etc.

Larry Guy's "Selecting and Adjusting Single Reeds" (available from Gary
Van Cott on Sneezy) is great for finishing and break-in process, either
commercial or hand made.

George T. Kirck's "Reedmate Reed Guide" has a lot of useful information.

I just got the new version of Ben Armato's "PerfectaReed and beyond"
which has a lot of useful information about cane and reed work. Some of
this is geared toward the sale of his "PerfectaReed" machine (which he
kindly demonstrated for me at the OU Symposium), but most of it is just
general good information.

There's some information on reed making in William Stubbins' book "The
Art of Clarinetistry". My own personal slant on this book is that it
presents a lot of information in a dry and not very interesting way -
YMMV. Walter Grabner thinks highly of this book, so maybe he'll weigh in
with an opposing pint of view.

Glenn Bowen's excellent book on reeds has just been republished. Short,
and to the point.

As a reed maker, my favorites are Larry Guy, Velasquez, and Kirck.

This is out of print. Opperman is allegedly threatening to reprint it,
but it isn't around yet. Most of the info is available elsewhere, anyway.
