I tried the ligature once a year or so ago. None of the plates really
inspired me to buy it. No matter which plate i used, it felt like it was
muffling the sound. It didn't offer much flexibility in tone colour or
volume. And I've listened to others try it out and had the same complaint
to them, and they agreed. And i know a few people that use it regularly,
and i don't care for their sound since they switched.

And for about the same price, maybe a tad bit more(?), you can get the Peter
Spriggs 'Floating Rails' ligature which has alot more ping (focus +
resonance) and projection.

But the best ligature i've ever played has been the old Kaspars. I looked
for years before i found, on ebay of all places. There had been others on
eBay before, but they went for outrageous prices, and the one i swiped up
went for about $90.

The Spriggs and Charlie Bay's ligatures are both great as well. Peter's is
more of an advancement of the Bonade concept with the two rails. And
Charlie's is an attempt to recreate the Kaspar ligatures, but with more
class and elegance (although i like the simple Kaspar design better).

I've never been happy with Bonade ligs. Be basic sound is fine, but the
quality of the ligatures is just aweful, maybe they've tightened up on that
aspect now. But if you have time to go through 10-20 ligatures to find one
that has even rails, won't slip and won't scratch the back of your
mouthpiece, then that's fine.
