Thanks Roger for sharing the information with us. It is all very useful.
The only statement with which I would take exception was
"Music publishers have quite efficient 'Permissions Departments'"
I waited for three months for a response on my query to Theodore Presser
about "Syrinx" --long enough, if I had been of such a mind, to make an
"emergency fair-use copy for non-profit educational purposes", perform it,
then to ask forgiveness. 8-)
By the way, Mark prodded me into looking into this matter of "Syrinx" again.
I may have found a manuscript which precedes 1923. Don't know yet. Stay
tuned.
