What to do with old reeds?

First and most important is to make an
offering to the "reed god" to insure that
you will have good reeds for the following
week. This is one of the first lessons I
teach my students about reeds.

Second, several of my younger students
have made wonderful edifices, similar to
those you make with popsicle sticks.

Lastly, a percussionist friend is in the middle
of making a wonderful "reed tree" (like a
bell tree) by cutting off the tips and hanging
each reed on a piece of thread. We've also
been toying with the idea of making some kind
of "rain stick" with reeds inside, but haven't
figured out how to keep them from getting
stuck as they fall down the tube.

Have fun!
