I'd like to know what Cindy means by the "changes" in the Poulenc sonata.
Does it mean harmonic changes, editorial or publisher's changes or Poulenc's
own changes, or something else altogether?

Also, (Tony Pay) [1] I agree that there is a lot of codswallop talked about
most things, but how can you be so confident that whatever the article in
question says won't alter your own ideas?
[2] Would you mind defining the "problem"?
[3] Since you've confessed to having "investigated the matter in some depth"
it would be interesting to me (and probably many others) to know the outcome,
so that we are in a position to "either endorse or correct" (-in your own
words-) your findings! (Have you ever recorded the Poulenc sonata - I'm sure
it would be worth having a copy.)

I have a few recordings of the Poulenc sonata, the two most notable (on CD, &
IMO) being a version by Karl Leister & James Devine recorded for DGG in 1989
and another made by Michel Portal & Jacques Fevrier for EMI/Seraphim in about
1973. They're quite different in character but I can't hear any "problem(s)"
in either.

I also remember being impressed by Gervaise dePeyer's performance from about
35 years ago which I have somewhere on a vinyl LP but can't find now. I wish
I had a copy of a Cala 2 CD set on which James Campbell plays clarinet - it
contains a lot of other Poulenc chamber works including the Poulenc sonata
for clarinet duo and "L'invitation au chateau" (clarinet, violin & piano)
which is the only recording I've ever heard of that work.

I look forward to your reply/replies.

PS (Tony) I hope this is the sort of bite you expected in response to your
characteristically provocative (some would say arrogant) post. Keep up the
good work!
Best wishes,
Tim Shaw.

BTW, I don't want to know so that I can alter my own ideas. My
experience, having investigated the matter in some depth, is that a lot
of codswallop is talked about this problem.

I'd like to know so that I can either endorse or correct the article.
