What to do with old reeds?
The room where I teach in the music school has one wall covered with
reed boards. They are square cut boards (don't know the exact
measurements) each decorated with reeds in various designs. They are
made from old reeds from students over the years and quite a few are
some reject reeds from Steuer. Some of the reeds, students colored faces
or designs of some sort. A few of the reed boards were made entirely by
students. You can see some of their work at this site:

The first two and the last two are photos of reed boards made by
students. You can click on the picture to see it larger. The first
photo, by the way, also uses a broken bell and mouthpiece dropped by
some student.
