The David Hite edition (Artistic Studies bk.1 - Southern Music) suggests 108
to the quarter. But this piece was one of the TMEA (Texas) region audition
pieces a few years ago, and it wasn't that uncommon to hear it played at
120+.

I personally feel, as fast above 100 as you can get it clean and even, and
make it sound furious, without neccessarily playing like a "bat outta hell"
(as my teacher says often :-).

I am practicing #26. I am embarrassed at the slowness of my starting
practice tempo. How fast is Allegro Furioso? I may never get there by
September 20th, or for that matter, in this lifetime. I almost broke
down in tears today. ANNIE
P.S. Tony Wakefield. I really do enjoy practicing "Hauntings". You did a
beautiful job of composing the changes of rhythms. They bounce along
naturally and are fun to play.
