Dear Lori & Roger,
I too was amazed and inspired by the OK Symposium. I had never
heard Ricardo before. Somehow I missed his recital in Lubbock. I don't
think I have every heard a clarinetist play with such beautiful technic
and ease. I loved his musical interpretation of everything he played.
Roger, I agree that David Neithamer (I can't get back to your letter to
spell his name) played a gorgeous recital with the most interesting
music. I particularly liked the David Baker piece.
I want to thank borh of you Lori & Roger for listening to me play
for Eddie Daniels. I know you have probably heard me talk about my
problem with performance anxiety to the List. When I played for Eddie, I
was not scared at all. I just imagined that I was in a jazz club having
a good time. So Lori, it was not bravery. Just doing what I do best --
imrovization. I wish Tony Pay could have been there to serenade me with
a little chorus of "My Funny Valentine" on his Basset Horn during that
tune.
By the way, Lori, when I played for Mr. Weber's master class, I got
very nervous and tried to do a little "kick" to loosen up. Mr. Weber, my
beloved teacher, was not impressed at all, and he told me "Annie, this
is not a burlesque show". He was really upset with me and I was in
tears. Glad I wore the rose colored glasses so nobody could see. Oh
well. ANNIE
