Probably I should keep my mouth closed, but I made a similar
comment a year or so ago when I tried (and then withdrew from) bass
clarinet. I was chastised quite firmly for using the word "loose" when
posting on this list about *any* clarinet. I'm glad to hear someone
with skills and credentials use the same word. What little bass
playing I did brought the same image to my mind. (I've never touched
anything lower than a bass, however.)
