When I was in the store today (picking up a copy of Galway Plays Sir
Malcolm Arnold, I've heard good things about the clarinetist), I noticed
a book for sale. The cover blurb was:

"The world was ruled by music --- but tradition called the tune. The
Ancient Songs of ages past were all that could be heard, and no one was
allowed to change a single note or word...."

This book includes a CD from the "18th Annual Competition" --- all of
this for $4.99. How could I resist?

The title, you ask? The Worst Band In The Universe. How bad will it
be? [No, I haven't listened to it yet.] And how often do you hear
someone attempt the bB (sic) - D tremolo on a splingtwangler?

Chucklingly yours,
Bill
