Your calling attention to the word reminded me of my old friend Robin
Miller, an oboist I played chamber music with a lot in years gone by in
the Nash Ensemble.

Robin was particularly fond of a review he once had from the critic
Gerald Larner, who used to write for the Manchester Guardian. Gerald
Larner wrote reviews that sometimes made musicians wince; this one was
of an oboe recital that Robin had given. At the end, he'd played one of
the Britten Metamorphoses for solo oboe as an encore.

The review concluded:

"An otherwise excellent recital was marred by the inclusion of this
irrelevant bauble, coyly introduced and indifferently played."
