Subj: [kl] Buffet Festival versus LeBlanc Opus
Date: Wed, 13 Jun 2001 03:01:02 -0400

In partial reply to Josh Gardner's question, I'd like to say that the Buffet
Festival is a wonderful clarinet. I tried several today (both A and Bb) and
found that the tone was smooth, with a nice distribution of upper harmonics,
and the tuning was spot on.

This leads me to quandry. I am - quite emphatically - a LeBlanc person. I
have been impressed with their clarinets and have recently tried their Opus
(Bflat only). Again, even tone, with upper harmonics, and excellent tuning
apart from F# (top line of the stave). Finding such a superb clarinet in
the (shock, horror) Buffet line-up makes my decision about purchasing a new
clarinet quite difficult. What I would like to know is...

What are other people's opinons of the two clarinets?

Which would they prefer to buy and WHY?

Why is it that so many clarinets have the F# slightly flatter than other
notes? (I know this isn't me, because on some clarinets I played, such as
the Festival, it was fine. On others, like the R13, it wasn't)

What mouthpieces are you playing with the particular clarinets?

yours in lively discussion...
Rina
