This quarter's issue of The Clarinet from the ICA has a column that in fact discusses no-name or "off-name" instruments and who really made them. Woodwind & Brasswind was mentioned as one of those marketers who sells instruments under its own name that are made mostly in Taiwan. The column is interesting reading. Apparently the tradition, if you want to call it that, of selling under various marks instruments made in one factory goes back far into the last century. The instruments probably varied in quality then as they do now.
