Subj: [kl] Mozart + pork cutlets

I imagine that most of you who care about this have seen the AP story
about Mozart. Mozart wrote a letter to his wife 44 days before his
illness sreported to have begun:

"What do I smell?...pork cutlets! Che Gusto. [what a delicious taste]
I eat to your health."

The incubation period for trichinosis is "up to 50 days", and all of
Mozart's documented symptoms match those of trichinosis.

Of course, there are other theories. Dr. Faith Fitzgerald of UC-Davis
(who once proposed that rheumatic fever was the cause) was quoted in
today's article: "I personally think that he died because they needed a
new choirmaster in heaven. [...] Doctors like to review the master's
death because it's fun and it's Mozart."

....she makes a point with her last phrase. I don't think that anyone,
musician or otherwise, will feel a need to debate my death when the time
comes. The lastest Mozart speculation, however, was front page news in
our localo newspaper.

Cheers,
Bill
