Tony,

Today I tried holding my finger as far back in my mouth as I could stand
it and blew as if I was blowing into the clarinet. Then I did the
"French r" style flutter tongue. The roof of my mouth at the back seemed
to lower and the tongue seemed to raise for the action. It closed in on
my finger from top and bottom but not from the sides. This is the
technique which works up into the altissimo for me. Does that help at
all?

David
