Hi -
I'm not Ed, but I think I can answer this! What we call a clothespin is
the thing you use when you hang out the washing to fix the wet clothes to the
clothesline. You surely must have something similar in Britain? We have two
types of clothespins - one is a one-piece carved wooden thing with a knob at
one end and a slit up the middle. I think the Amish invented it. You put
the edge of the piece of clothing over the line, then stick the clothespin
over the line and garment to hold it. The other kind has two pieces of wood
or plastic held together with a spring device, like some kinds of paper clips
- this is the kind referred to for this finger exercise. You would squeeze
and release the clothespin, and the spring action would exercise your fingers.
Hope this helped...
