clarinet.

Resistance in a closed pipe instrument with a beating reed is quite
different than the model of say a garden hose. Reduction of the bore near
the mouthpiece by way of a tapered barrel can actually reduce resistance
that we feel at the mouthpiece end. The "resistance" that the initial post
referred to from an incorrectly sized tuning ring was most likely due to
turbulence.
