George,

If you don't feel you can make this decision on you own, and don't want to
wait till your own playing, ear and clarinet tastes are more developed, then
take a clarinetist with you whose judgment you trust, and who knows
something about you as a player. I'm a relative beginner, and recently
bought a Buffet R13 with the help of my teacher. I'm very happy with the
horn, which I've had now for about 6 months. Are you taking lessons, and do
you trust your teacher's judgment? Then take him/her along. Of course you
should expect to pay the teacher for this service.

(By the way, I remember my teacher having some very negative things to say
about the Elite at the time. He didn't like the sound of the horn. Of
course that's a matter of personal taste.)

Good luck,

Mike
