Personally, I feel that Napster is a good vehicle to spread one's music. I
also feel that it is thievery to download music, enjoy it, and not purchase
it. People do make their livelihood from this industry, don't they? I try
to imagine how I would feel if I had written a song, and received my income
from the residuals of a song, only to see it available to everyone with a
computer in the world for free.

I have used Napster frequently, as a preview for purchase. If I like what I
download, I buy it. If I don't, I delete it. I believe this is fair, and
circumvents many of the limitations of current practices in the recording
sales industry. Why, if I have interest but lack familiarity, should I buy
a product and be denied the right to return it because I don't like it?
Napster solved this problem for me. But now it is a mere shadow of its
former self.

Solution: Make people pay a fair price for downloads. I'd gladly pay $.50
or $1.00 to sample music. The songwriters get their residuals. The record
co. gets their piece, etc. And hopefully everyone will be happy. Also, I
would be open to any additions/debate (but not fighting)/ etc. on this
subject, especially from a composer.
