How do folks here feel about the demise of Napster? And does anyone know of
an alternative for classical music or jazz?

Personally, I was able to find much otherwise unavailable music on Napster
and learn of unfamiliar artists and performances, but no longer. And in my
view the system only helped the world of commercial music in that it
inspired one to go out and seek cd's of things you had the opportunity to
listen to by downloading first. But I'm sure this view is not shared by
all, and I'm probably opening up a large can of worms. If you do know of an
