It is not uncommon for people who seem to have this problem to be
encouraged to get (and learn how to operate) their own sphygmomanometers
and take their own readings in the relative comfort and safety of their own
homes. The readings can be much truer, or at least more consistent, and
many can be averaged over time, instead of having the doctor rely on ONE
panic-fueled office reading.
