I live in Colorado Springs, CO. I had been very depressed about our
"live music" scene here, which seemed to have gone the way of DJ's,
KARAOKE machines, heavy metal, Rap & Hip-Hop. I thought it was over for
me, so I started teaching private clarinet students in the music store
last September. A few weeks ago, my favorite jazz pianist in town, Dave
Innis, started getting bookings every night. At one point the Dave Innis
Trio worked non-stop for 18 nights. Dave called me up a few weeks ago
and invited me to play with the trio on Mon, Tues & Weds nights. I am so
delighted that jazz is back.
I think James Marionaix (excuse me if I spelled your name wrong; I
can't get back there to check the spelling) is "right on" concerning
practice & fingering. I can totally relate to it, because I developed a
bad right-hand for a while there, and the only way to fix it was to make
it good. I have been reluctant to tell the list that I had a mini-stroke
(while awake) due to high blood pressure. I doubt that I will ever play
the clarinet part to Midsummer Nights' Dream up to tempo again, but the
slow practice in the low register made all the difference in the world.
