Vasiliu,

I have visited Okmanpower's web site.

Tomorrow (Monday June 4) I am going to visit the local YMCA branch and
inquire about their relationship with this organization.

I want to offer a few comments to you right now. You can interpret them
as you wish. These are just my comments and opinions.

First, I was unable to find a description on the web site of how much
you will pay for housing while you are here in the United States. One
of my nieces worked for a theme park (I'm not going to mention the name,
but it was a _big_ theme park with more than one park here in the United
States). She enjoyed the work (40 hours/week) and she was glad for the
opportunity, and it was a good education for her, but.... her parents
had to spend more money to house and feed her (in a city far away from
her home) than she earned at the park, even working 40 hours !!!!!!

I can imagine that $6-$12 per hour sounds like a lot of money, but I can
also imagine that food+housing+daily needs costs much more in the U.S.
than you are used to in Romania.

It bothers me that I was unable to find a local address (a U.S. address)
for their organization except for their webmaster's telephone number in
Rhode Island. Okmanpower may have a U.S. address, but I haven't been
abe to find it. What sort of 'contact' will be available to you here
in the U.S. if something goes wrong?

I think that many of us on the Klarinet list were under the impression
that you would be working as a performer here in the U.S. The web site
talks only about low level tasks that have nothing to do with music.
Do you want to pass up chances to perform and study in your own country
in order to tear off ticket stubs and serve hot dogs in the U.S.?

As a traveller myself, I agree that travel is a good thing. But do you
_really_ know what you're getting into?

A final point: they don't guarantee to get you a job here in the U.S.,
but they _do_ guarantee not to refund all of your money if they fail to
get you a job.

Vasiliu, you must evaluate what I have written above. Obviously I
don't know what the facts are, and so I can only post my worries.
Everything that I have written is just my own opinion, not hard fact
(except for my niece's experience). I may be able to learn a bit more
when I visit the local YMCA.

Regards,
-Bill
