Rachael, I have never been able to master double tonguing. However, I am
familiar with correct single-tonguing. Many years ago, my teacher, who
had studied with Daniel Bonade, taught me how to articulate correctly
from information in the Bonade "Clarinetists Compendium", which is now
available in many music stores. Proper articulation involves blowing
through your clarinet, (not into it) and stopping the flow of air with
your tongue, not stopping and starting the air with little "stabs", but
continuing the flow flow of air. I don't want to get into a long-winded
discussion about articulation, because it is definitely something that
you work on with your teacher. Many professional clarinetists never
learn how to articulate correctly. You can hear them going
"Chwut-Chwut-Chwat" all over the place. ANNIE

Subject: [kl] Question

Hello everyone,

In response to William Wright's answer, the competition won't be fierce.
I meant different. It is kind of scary and there are alot of 4 year All
Staters that attend WTAMU as compared to my only 2 years. It is really scary
to go to a new school where you are basically nothing from the school where
you were the top clarinetist in the area. It is scary. that is all.. Sorry
for emphasizing the word scary! :)
Here is my question. Could anyone give me some good tonguing techniques
to improve the tonguing fast? That is one of my weaknesses. Double tonguing
is another question. How do you double tongue on the clarinet and when you
start how long should you practice a day? Can everyone do it?

Rachael
