Howarth&co (the oboe people) make a proffessional clarinet (that i adore
but can't afford) that I think also has a wider bore or some similar
distinctive feature - i recall being told it was modelled on an
'english' bore. Am i right, or am i making this up? Is there a link
between the two?

My instrument is the larger Howarth bore. Howarth makes an "S2"
and an "S3" model. The S2 is their original and larger bore (in the
nieghborhood of .580 or .585) (but not as large as .590 jazz
instruments) with the 'English horn' sound, and the S3 is their newer
and smaller bore to satisfy the modern trend toward smaller bores.

Cheers,
Bill
