According to Family Business Magazine (as reported by Associated Press),
the oldest family business in the U.S. is not a farm or a factory or an
inn or a restaurant.
It is a maker of cymbals (Zildjian Co). It was founded in 1623 and has
remained in the family ever since, but the family didn't move to the
U.S. until 1929.
It's interesting that music can claim this distinction of tradition, not
such basic enterprises as accommodating guests or producing food.
