I own a Pyne mouthpiece that Shifrin used in the Cleveland Symphony
Orchestra in the early 70s and I own two Pyne mouthpieces that I purchased
in the mid 90s. They all play right at A440. None of them play below the
pitch. The instrument plays some notes low (eg. open G and first space F)
- but that is not the fault of any of these mouthpieces.
