I have a Pyne in a drawer, purchased for big bucks, that I eventually
had to phase out because the only way to get pitch flexibility was to
use a really short barrel (i.e., 64mm or less). It would be a dream
in an ensemble of players with intonation that stayed at 440 for an
entire rehearsal/performance. But over the course of an hour or more,
my colleagues -- be we in an orchestral or chamber setting -- cannot
keep their intonation from climbing, and I'm left "sagging" at 440
with my short barrel while they head to 442 and beyond. Is this
need for shorter barrels common with Pynes, or did I get an oddball?
I realize that my colleagues' pitch problems don't help matters, but
the mouthpiece itself is still a little flat using 65mm.
