I thought that every knew that when they joined a mailing list such as this that they knew that there was no "privacy" inferred, but I guess not, based upon a message I just received. With anywhere from 800 to 1000 members at any time, an expectation of privacy would be moot.

To be clear:
The messages sent via the Klarinet mailing list have no promise, implied or otherwise, of being private postings. They are archived in a public format on http://www.sneezy.org and just about all the major and minor search engines crawl and index http://www.sneezy.org, including all messages.

You retain the copyright to your own messages, meaning basically that people can't claim them as their own and make a profit off of them. The searchable archive functions as a sort of library, and has the same restrictions.

There is no option to "not archive" your posts; therefore, if you don't want your posts archived, don't post.

I'm all for the free exchange of ideas within bounds; as the many people who have contributed to the Sneezy site know, I ask each and every one for permission to copy postings to the Sneezy site, and each one has an attribution if appropriate.

"Yes, Jerry ... the bell would fill with water. (un)Fortunately, this does
not affect the way a sax sounds." - Fred (postings on the Clarinet BBoard)
