And you will not get that level of polished performance, either, without
that kind of time expended. Most schools I serve do one show per year,
improving and adding to it throughout the fall until it is complete. The
better ones might do two or three different shows. They perform them for 5
or 6 home games. I do not see where that is excessive. The competitive
band thing is another matter, and I have already stated my reservations
about that. It is the director's job to see to it that musical development
is not ignored.
