Not true universally. Most school districts make it clear from the outset
that if students want to play in the high school band, they will be
required to march.

I certainly did when I taught that level. If the administration required
it of me, I required it of the students. It mattered little that I would
rather not have them march at all - it mattered because I could do marching
band and still teach students to be good musicians.......

Anyone who says it can't be done is a defeatist.
