Bill, are you going to Norman for the Clarinet Symposium, June 15-17?
You should go and talk to a bunch of clarinetists in person, maybe get
together with a couple of them privately. People can talk about
exercises and give "expert" advice forever, but this is a hands-on
situation. I have known you on the Klarinet List now since last fall
when I joined and you are a very smart man, much smarter than me. Even
though I have seen many people on this list write extrememly long
articles about many topics, I really think that clarinet tone production
(in any range) cannot really be totally expressed over the internet. It
does help to get many different opinions, but sometimes in can be
distracting. I'm sure there are hundreds of people on this list who
could help you. Maybe you should get together with a couple of them from
your area? I personally spend a good part of the first year of clarinet
study for clarinet students in the clarion register. I could try to
describe it to you, but I could have so much more success if I could
show you in person and work with you. ANNIE

Subject: [kl] Opening the nasal passages

What exercise or technique will help to open up (and to 'feel' the
open-ness of) the nasal passages in order to diminish the 'strident
shrieky' part of a person's tone in the clarion?

Thank you,
Bill
