When I was in the West Point Band, everybody got an Army-issue Bundy for
parades, football games, etc. Parades went into the field-house during heavy
rain, but football games went on, rain, shine, snow, sleet and earthquake.
One honor guard (official military welcome for a VIP) I played in a rainstorm
so heavy you couldn't see across the street, and at another the temperature
was in the single digits. Even when your fingers, hands and lips were
completely numb, the horns played fine.

The band had two full-time repairmen, and whenever we came back from a rainy
outing, all the clarinets and saxophones went to the repair shop, where they
were dried and the keys were oiled, but I'm not sure it made much difference
with the Bundys, which were pretty much invulnerable to abuse. They dried
out fast enough that the bladder pads never swelled, at least on the one I
played.
