Our poor brothers and sisters on the saxophone. When I sequenced the
Rimsky-Korsakov Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Orchestra and first sight
read it with the band to which I belong, I got nothing but a withering
onslought of vituperation and calumny from the French Horn players about
how I had assigned several instruments no longer found in local music shops
to the alto, tenor and baritone saxophones and they're all "covering us up".

Tough, I thought, so I did it again when I prepared the Trombone Concerto
and haven't heard a peep from them. Ah, well, there's still the Oboe
Concerto to go, and I did the same thing there. We don't sight read that
till September. I'll report back then.

(On the other hand I DID mistranslate "tamburo" as "tambourine" and
everyone really gave it to me last night!)
