Being serious for a moment, I've heard UK visitors (to the US) use
the word "bloody" and I've never felt confident that I knew how angry or
disapproving they intended to be.

Use it in every day informal situations. Don`t use it at the beginning of
the evening in front of the "ladies" at posh/royal cocktail parties. But you
will find it will be freely and increasingly used as the evening progresses.
Just use your bloody common sense man!
